Sneaker Suggestions

/ / parents, Therapy

Kids at ECEC participate in gym, playground and motor therapies. It is important to wear shoes that support the foot and keep kids safe. Here are some suggestions for footwear for children:

  • Non-skid or skid resistant soles

  • Flexibility- the front of the shoe should bend as the foot bends when walking

  • Shoes that tie or have good velcro which provide good shoe closure

  • Athletic shoes are good choices for support( Stride Rite, New Balance, Nike, Saucony, Asics)—PLEASE AVOID shoes such as sandals, crocs, flip flops or slip ons for school.

  • Shoes need to fit a child’s foot- avoid them being too big or too small

If your child has been determined eligible for OPWDD services you MAY be able to apply for a grant to reimburse you for the cost

If you have questions about your child’s shoes, please contact your child’s Physical Therapist
